The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Are you interested in becoming a member of the Catholic Church?
Have you professed your belief in the Catholic Church and desire
to complete the Sacraments of Initiation?
We welcome all into this program who wish to receive
the sacraments of initiation or who desire further instruction in the faith.
The purpose of this class is to assist those who are considering joining
or renewing their membership into the Roman Catholic Church.
If you have not been fully initiated into the Catholic Church,
having received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist,
we encourage you to consider joining this program.
The RCIA journey consists of four periods.
First is the precatechumenate;
the time of inquiry, of sharing our story, of listening to Scripture,
a time to respond to God in a personal way.
The second period is that of the catechumenate;
during this period we focus on formation in the Christian life,
with emphasis on the liturgical celebrations.
The third period, of purification and enlightenment;
takes place during the season of lent,
when we focus on the spiritual preparation.
It is a time of prayerful decision making
and reflection on the commitment
which leads to the reception of the sacraments of initiation.
The fourth period which occurs after Easter is called mystagogia.
During this time we begin to unpack everything that has taken place
to reflect on our faith, the Gospel and the Eucharist.
We discover opportunities to further our life
as active members of the church community
and of lifelong discipleship.
If you are interested in joining the RCIA ,
or have any questions,
and would like to discuss
the possibility of your involvement in this program,
please call Rev. Zachary Kawalec at the parish office,
216-662-8685, to set up an appointment.
Most meetings are scheduled
for Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
There are, however,
Rites and the Breaking Open of the Word ceremonies
that will take place on specified Sundays.
As you think about the RCIA Program,
we hope that you will be open to the personal and community journey
that this process invites you to discover.
May the Spirit of God guide you. |
Children's Catechumenate
The Children’s Catechumenate is for unbaptized children of catechetical age (age 7 and over). The Children’s Catechunenate follows the rites of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) but gears them toward the children.
Children and their parents participate in weekly sessions, usually held on Wednesday nights from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. During this time, the families explore all aspects of the Catholic Faith and rituals.
During the Lenten Season, the sessions are held on Sunday morning during the 10:00am Mass. The Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion are then celebrated at the Easter Vigil, followed by sessions until the end of May. If you have any questions or are interested in the process, please call Rev. Zachary Kawalec at the Parish Office - (216) 662-8685.
