To have your baby baptized, you must be a registered parishioner, attend the baptism preparation class, and be a practicing Catholic.  You can register for this class by calling the Parish Office, 662-8685. Classes are normally held during the months of August, November, January, April and June.

Please keep these things in mind regarding godparents:

  1. Godparents are to have completed their 16 year of life and be fully initiated members of the Church – having received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.  If married, they need to be validly married in the Catholic Church. At least, one godparent must fulfill these requirements.
  2. You need only one male or one female godparent or you may have one godparent of each sex.
  3. Godparents should be an example of active Christian living for your child and a support to you in bringing your child up as a catholic Christian.  This means that they participate regularly in the life of the Church.
  4. One godparent could fulfill what is knows as the role of a Christian witness.  A Christian witness is a baptized member of another Christian Church, but one who is active in participating in their Sunday worship.
  5. The Catholic godparent needs to bring a Sponsor certificate on the day of the baptism. If the Godparents are members of St. Monica Parish they need to contact the parish office and a note of their eligibility will be marked on the baptism registration form provided to the minister of baptism by the parish office staff.

For the celebration of your child’s baptism:

  1. You can have your child baptized at any one of the scheduled weekend Masses. This is the preferred option as it brings the community into the celebration.

  2. You can also celebrate the baptism of your child on the second or fourth Sunday of the month at 1:15 p.m.  We usually limit this celebration to six children.

  3. If your child is no longer an infant, it is advised that you arrange with one of the ministers of baptism for a special ceremony.
